Window profiles made from bio-attributed PVC
The material makes the difference
PVC production requires ethylene, which is typically derived from fossil raw materials. For bio-attributed PVC, tall oil is used as a biogenic feedstock for the production of ethylene. Tall oil is a by-product of the pulp and paper industry.
For the BIOVYN™ PVC used by Kömmerling, the available Proof of Sustainability identifies renewable naphtha from crude tall oil as the raw material. Finland, Sweden and the USA are stated as the countries of origin.

Bio-attributed PVC is chemically identical to conventional PVC. This means that the material properties relevant to window profiles are retained.

This means that bio-attributed PVC can be used in existing profile and production concepts without changing the technical requirements of the material.
Certified supply chain
The bio-attributed PVC used by Kömmerling is certified in accordance with the requirements of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB).
The material is physically separated from conventional PVC. From the delivery of the raw material through to the delivery of the profiles, no allocation takes place via a mass-balance approach.
For projects with specific material requirements
Bio-attributed PVC provides an additional material option for projects where the raw material basis, certification of the materials used and their greenhouse gas balance play a particular role.
It is suitable, for example, for projects with requirements relating to:
- the use of bio-attributed raw materials
- RSB-certified materials
- documented material origin
- a reduced carbon footprint of the PVC raw material
The choice of material may also be taken into account in building certification schemes. The specific eligibility depends on the requirements of the respective certification system.
Can Be Combined with Recycled Material
For profiles with a recycled core, bio-attributed PVC can be used as virgin material in the corresponding areas of the profile construction.
This allows recycled material and bio-attributed PVC to be combined within a single profile concept.
